Ferrari could be about to shake up the grid at the upcoming Miami Grand Prix, with former IndyCar driver James Hinchcliffe suggesting the Italian team may introduce its biggest upgrade package yet.

While much of the spotlight heading into the weekend has been on McLaren and its extensive updates, Ferrari is quietly building expectations of its own.

The Scuderia is already known to be bringing a significant package to the Miami International Autodrome, setting the stage for what could be a decisive performance shift.

Upgrade Battle Brewing in Miami

McLaren confirmed that they are rolling out an almost completely new version of their MCL40 during both the Miami and Canada races, and as a result, they’ve become a major focus of attention from the Formula 1 community.

However, former Formula 1 racer Jolyon Palmer thinks that Ferrari is also in the hunting grounds.

Speaking on the F1 Nation podcast, Palmer said: “Minimum third.

“The gap behind is just too big at the moment, and I guess the question is: how good is McLaren’s upgrade package versus Ferrari’s?”

“Because they’re basically just in an upgrade-off heading into Miami.”

Ferrari’s Innovation Could Be the X-Factor

Despite McLaren’s headline-grabbing updates, Ferrari has arguably been the most inventive team so far this season. One of its standout developments was the upside-down rear wing concept introduced during testing, a design that even rivals like Red Bull Racing have since explored.

That trend of innovation is exactly why James Hinchcliffe believes Ferrari could still steal the spotlight.

Adding to Palmer’s comments, James Hinchcliffe said: “And remember, Ferrari has been the team that’s had some of the cooler innovations so far, heading into pre-season and throughout the first few races.”

“Maybe we’re all kind of sleeping on them as a team that could bring out actually the biggest and most impressive upgrades, because they have sort of had that trend so far this year, right?”

With both Ferrari and McLaren preparing major upgrades, the Miami Grand Prix is shaping up to be more than just another race.

It could be a turning point in the development race, where innovation and execution decide who takes the early advantage.
