FIFA World Cup 2022: The Squad of South Korea

The South Korea National Football team is drawn in “Group H”, alongside Portugal, Ghana and Uruguay. As per the schedule, their first face-off in Group H will be against Uruguay on 24 November 2022 for the FIFA World Cup.

The team, which is usually recognised as Korea Republic by FIFA is taken care of by the Korea Football Association. However, the team is given the nicknames like “Tigers of Asia“, and generally recognised as “the Reds” by both media platforms and fans over the world. Moreover, the nickname, “The Reds” is given to them because of the colour of their primary kit. However, the team is currently led by the head coach, Paulo Bento.

According to reports, South Korea has evolved over the years and came up as a major football power in Asia since the 1980s and has by far been considered as the most successful Asian football team. As per sources, the team has participated in nearly ten consecutive and eleven overall FIFA World Cup tournaments, which is said to be the maximum for any Asian country.

Later, the South Korea team became the only Asian team to reach the semi-final stages when they co-hosted the 2002 tournament with Japan. Furthermore, the team has managed to register two AFC Asian Cup titles and finished as runners-up on four occasions. Also, the team successfully registered three gold medals, as well as three silver medals to their names during the senior Asian Games.
