Has Australia won every ICC trophy there is to win?
Australia added the WTC to their big collection of ICC trophies, but have the mighty Aussies won every trophy?
Australia is unarguably the most successful team when it comes to winning ICC trophies. Yesterday, Australia beat India in the World Test Championship Final to add yet another ICC trophy to their overflowing collection. But has the most successful cricket team won everything there is to win in cricket? Let’s take a look.
ICC World Cup
Australia has won the ICC World Cup a record five times.
- The Australian team first won the ICC World Cup in 1987 when they defeated England in the finals by 7 runs. The match was held at Eden Gardens, Calcutta.
- They won it in 1999 when they defeated Pakistan by 8 wickets in Lord’s, London.
- They won it in 2003 when they defeated India in the finals by 125 runs in the Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg.
- In 2007 they completed a hat-trick of World Cup wins as they once again won the trophy after defeating Sri Lanka in the finals by 53 runs in Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados.
- In 2015, Australia defeated co-hosts New Zealand to win the trophy for the fifth time by 7 wickets in the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Melbourne.
ICC Champions Trophy
The Australian team has won the Champions Trophy twice and India is the only other country to win the trophy twice.
- Australia won the trophy for the first time in 2006 when they defeated West Indies by 8 wickets in Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai.
- In 2009 they won the Champions Trophy once again as they defeated New Zealand by 6 wickets at SuperSport Park, Centurion.
ICC T20 World Cup
The Australian team has won the ICC T20 World Cup only once in 2021. They defeated New Zealand in the finals by 8 wickets at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai.
ICC World Test Championship
Australia won the ICC World Test Championship after defeating India in the finals by 209 runs at The Oval, London.
ICC Women’s World Cup
If you thought that the Australian Men’s team dominated the ICC trophies then you don’t know about their Women’s team dominance.
Just like their Men’s team the Women’s team has also won the ICC Women’s World Cup most times in history. They have won the trophy seven times.
- They first won the trophy in 1978 when they defeated England in the finals by 8 wickets at the Lal Bahadur Shastri Stadium, Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh (now Telangana).
- In 1982 they won once again by defeating England in the finals by 3 wickets at Lancaster Park, Christchurch.
- In 1988, Australia completed a hat-trick of wins as they defeated their arch-rivals England once again in the finals. Australia won the match by 8 wickets at Melbourne Cricket Ground.
- Australia won the trophy for the fourth time when they defeated New Zealand in the finals in 1997. They won the match by 5 wickets at Eden Gardens, Calcutta.
- In 2005, they defeated India by 98 runs to win the trophy at SuperSport Park, Centurion.
- In 2013, they won the trophy by defeating West Indies by 114 runs at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai.
- In 2022 they won the trophy for the seventh time by defeating England in the finals. They won the finals by 71 runs at Hagley Oval, Christchurch.
ICC Women’s T20 World Cup
They have won the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup the most times. They have won the trophy 6 times.
- The Australian Women’s Team won the trophy for the first time in 2010 where they defeated New Zealand in the finals by 3 runs at the Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados.
- In 2012, they defeated England in the finals by 4 runs at R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo.
- In 2014, they defeated England in the finals to win the trophy by 6 wickets at the Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur.
- They defeated England for the third time in 2014 in the finals in a row to complete yet another hat-trick of trophies. They won the match by 8 wickets at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound.
- In 2020, they defeated India by 85 runs in the finals as they won the trophy after 6 years at Melbourne Cricket Ground, Melbourne.
- In February this year, they defeated South Africa by 19 runs to win the trophy at Newlands Cricket Ground, Cape Town.
Commonwealth Games
Cricket made its debut in the Commonwealth Games in 2022. It came in the form of women’s T20 cricket. Australia won the Gold Medal by defeating India by 9 runs.
ICC Under-19 World Cup
Australia has won the ICC Under-19 World Cup three times.
- In 1988, Australia won the Under-19 World Cup for the first time by defeating Pakistan in the finals by 5 wickets at the Adelaide Oval.
- In 2002, they defeated South Africa by 7 wickets in the finals at the Bert Sutcliffe Oval, Lincoln.
- In 2010, Australia once again defeated Pakistan in the finals by 25 runs at Bert Sutcliffe Oval, Lincoln.
ICC Under-19 Women’s World Cup
The only ICC trophy that Australia has failed to win is the Women’s Under-19 World Cup. The Women’s Under-19 World Cup has only taken place once in 2023 which India won by defeating England by 7 wickets at Senwes Park, Potchefstroom.
