Every fan wants their team to score goals but no fan wants their player to score an own goal. Here are the players with the most own goals in the Premier League.

Richard Dunne (Everton, Manchester City, Aston Villa, QPR)

This is the most unwanted record in Premier League history. Richard Dunne has scored 10 own goals three more than the joint second players. Dunne also holds the record for joint most red cards in the Premier League with Patrick Vieira and Duncan Ferguson. These three players have eight red cards.

Jamie Carragher (Liverpool)

Jamie Carragher is arguably one of the best players who ever played for Liverpool. Carragher scored three times for Liverpool but found the wrong net seven times. In 1999 against Liverpool’s arch-rivals, Manchester United Carragher scored twice in his own goal giving United a 3-2 win. Carragher has scored three goals while playing against Tottenham Spurs.

Martin Skrtel (Liverpool)

The second Liverpool to feature on this infamous list is Martin Skrtel. The defender from Slovakia scored the second joint most own goals. He scored these seven own goals in a total of four games. Fortunately for Skrtel, Liverpool went on to win three games.

Phil Jagielka (Stoke City, Sheffield United, Everton)

Despite his best efforts, Stuart Pearce still held the record for the oldest outfield player to score an own goal in the Premier League, topping Phil Jagielka by just 23 days on April 3, 2021, when he scored for Sheffield United against Leeds United. Jagielka also has scored seven own goals.

Ryan Shawcross (Stoke City)

The defender for Stoke City is a stalwart for the club. During Stoke City’s 10 year run in the Premier League, Shawcross scored six own goals. It was not all own goals for Shawcross as he managed to score 25 goals at the right end too.

Wes Brown (Manchester United, Sunderland)

Wes Brown is not an ordinary player. He has won five Premier League trophies and has even won the coveted UEFA Champions League trophy twice. His most forgettable moment came when he scored fourth of his six own goals against his former team while playing for Sunderland. At Old Trafford, Brown scored the only goal of the match. The problem with the goal was that it was in his own net.
