Hint from WWE’s Michael Cole for a Major Name Returning for Wrestlemania

On Friday night’s broadcast of WWE SmackDown, Michael Cole teased what many fans assume would be a Wrestle Mania 39 match.

Cole said this during the contest between Austin Theory and Drew McIntyre: “Austin Theory is without a doubt one of the most talented we have seen in a while.” However, he might stand to adjust his attitude.

That most certainly serves to tease Theory’s bout with John Cena. Late in July, when Cena made a cameo in a backstage segment with Big Show, the first indication that this match would be broadcast on television appeared. Despite numerous rumours to the contrary, Cena’s obligations in the Hollywood film industry prevented this match from taking place at SummerSlam.

In an interview with NBC Sports Boston a month ago, when asked about his resemblance to Cena, theory said, “I will always appreciate that just because of being a kid at 8-years old and seeing John Cena for the first time really inspired me to do what I’m doing now. It’s made a career and pretty much set up my whole life, so there’s always going to be that appreciation for that comparison.”

He also said, But for me, I want to be my own and I want to do my own thing. I think oftentimes when somebody’s on a come up, people are always going to jump to, ‘Oh, he does this like this one, or he looks like this one’, and that’s great because people are always going to do that, but I think with time, everybody’s going to know that Theory is a stand-alone name.”

Cena’s farewell match at Wrestle Mania has drawn interest from Theory, who wants to wrestle Cena. It’s possible to read Cole’s SmackDown comment as a hint that the match will happen in 2019. It’s crucial to remember that WWE would never make such a tease unless they were certain the match would definitely happen.
