Hockey India Announces 24-Member Men’s Squad for FIH Pro League 2023-24

Hockey India has revealed the 24-member men’s squad set to participate in the Bhubaneswar and Rourkela legs of the FIH Pro League 2023-24. The team, captained by seasoned drag-flick expert Harmanpreet Singh, and vice-captained by accomplished midfielder Hardik Singh, will face Ireland, the Netherlands, Spain, and Australia twice each across both legs.

The Bhubaneswar leg is scheduled to commence on February 10 and conclude on February 16, followed by the Rourkela leg starting on February 19 and ending on February 25. India will kickstart their campaign against Spain on February 10.

Chief Coach Craig Fulton emphasized the selection of a well-balanced squad, combining experienced players with the vigor of youth. The FIH Pro League serves as a crucial platform to refine strategies and measure skills against top-tier opponents. The league holds significance, with champions earning a spot in the FIH Hockey World Cup 2026. Additionally, it provides valuable opportunities to identify areas for improvement and plays a pivotal role in preparing for the Paris Olympics.

The squad includes key players like goalkeeper Sreejesh Parattu Raveendran, defenders Amit Rohidas and Varun Kumar, midfielders Manpreet Singh and Vivek Sagar Prasad, and forwards Mandeep Singh and Akashdeep Singh.

Fulton expressed confidence that the exposure gained in the FIH Pro League will elevate the team’s performance and equip them to face upcoming challenges with confidence.
