There will be a lengthy break before the third Test of the four-match series between Team India and Australia at Indore’s Holkar Stadium. Following the second Test in Delhi, which India won by six wickets to take a 2-0 series lead and retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, both teams took nine days off. India was dismissed for just 109 runs on Day 1, and Australia held a slim lead of 47 runs with six wickets still in play as Day 1 came to a close. Can India limit the remaining Australian batters to a respectable lead after the first innings on Day 2?

Now, if India wins the third Test, which begins today (March 1), Rohit Sharma’s team will qualify for the World Test Championships (WTC) Final for the second time in a row. The Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) was unable to prepare the stadium in time for the third Test, which was originally scheduled to take place in Dharamshala but was moved to Indore instead.

The struggling Australians will be without the services of Pat Cummins, their regular Test captain, who has relocated back to Sydney to be with his ailing mother. The third Test in Indore will be captained by former captain Steve Smith. Rohit also has a lot on his plate, so he must choose between keeping KL Rahul as the opener and adding Shubman Gill at the top.
