India wins the first match of the ODI series by 66 runs. It was the team performance that leads India with a 1-0 lead. India scored 317 for 5 after England invited India to Bat first at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune today
It was a great match for debutants Krunal Pandya and Prasidh Krishna as they managed to get their dream moments against England in the first ODI. Krunal Pandya became the fastest half-century scorer in the debut match while Prasidh picked four wickets against the visitors.
For India, opener Shikhar Dhawan played the knock of 98 runs and missed his well-made century by just 2 runs, Skipper Virat Kohli also scored the half-century for India along with KL Rahul who played the knock of 62 runs and remains unbeaten. Krunal Pandya also added 58 runs to the team total with the help of his bat and helped his team to achieve a great total of 317 runs.
Chasing a target of 318 runs, the England openers batted briskly but later as the match progressed the Indian bowlers ditched the England batsmen.
After this, the entire England team was reduced to 251 runs. The famous Krishna got Tom Curran caught out at the hands of Bhuvaneshwar Kumar on the first ball of the 43rd over. India won the first ODI by a margin of 66 runs. Team India took a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
Johnny Bairstow scored 94 runs in 66 balls for England. Bairstow hit 7 sixes in his innings. Jason Roy also scored 46 runs. Johnny Bairstow and Jason Roy gave a stormy start. Both these batsmen rained sixes and fours in the first 10 overs. In particular, Bairstow smashed young bowler Krishna, both batsmen scoring 89 runs in 10 overs. However, apart from these two, no England batsman could sustain the wicket.
Earlier, England captain Eoin Morgan won the toss and decided to field first. From India, Krunal Pandya and Prasidh Krishna got the opportunity to debut in ODIs. Wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant did not get a place in the playing XI. Apart from batting at number five, KL Rahul also got the responsibility of wicketkeeper.
