The Indian women’s and men’s squash teams got off to a flying start in their 19th Asian Games campaign by securing convincing wins in their respective Pool stage matches.
In the women’s event, the Indian team breezed past Pakistan, while the men’s team overcame Singapore, initiating their campaign on a winning note.
In the women’s category, 15-year-old Anahat Singh, a champion in the under-15 and under-17 Asian divisions, set the tone by winning 3-0 in the first match of the Pool B tie against Pakistan. She outplayed Sadia Gul with a score of 11-6, 11-6, 11-3 in a match lasting 18 minutes.
Ace player Joshana Chinappa continued India’s dominance by clinching the second rubber with a 3-0 victory (11-2, 11-5, 11-7) over Noor Ul Huda Sadiq. In the third rubber, Tanvi Khana sealed the tie for India with a resounding 3-0 win (11-3, 11-6, 11-2) over Noor Ul Ain.
The Indian women’s team is set to face Nepal and Macao on Tuesday, followed by a match against Malaysia on Wednesday in their final Pool B encounter.
Earlier in the day, the men’s team displayed an impressive performance by defeating Singapore 3-0 in their Pool A fixture.
Harinder Singh Sandhu provided India with an early lead, securing a 3-1 victory (11-4, 13-11, 8-11, 11-7) over Jerome Clement Jin Ming. Sourav Ghosal extended the lead with a commanding 3-0 win (11-9, 11-1, 11-4) against Samuel Kang Shan Mu. Abhay Singh then wrapped up the tie with a 3-0 victory (11-7, 11-7, 11-7) over Marcus Phua Jia Hui.
The Indian men’s team will go on to face Qatar in their second Pool A match later in the day.
