The Indian Wells Open 2025 is a significant tennis event that started on 2 March and will end on 16 March. The tournament was founded in 1974 and is one of the oldest and most prestigious tennis events globally. 

This season is the 36th edition of the women’s event, and a number of legendary players are returning to the Indian Wells Open 2025, having a great record at the tournament like Iga Świątek and Madison Keys so let’s take a look at the top 4 contenders for the trophy this year.

Iga Świątek

Iga Świątek is a Polish professional tennis player known for her dominant performance in the court. Her career-high ranking is World Number 1 and is a five-time Grand Slam singles champion. 

She has had a remarkable history at the Indian Wells Open, having won the tournament twice in 2022 and 2024, which means she’s the defending champion of the trophy, she is one of the ten women to have won the tournament twice and will definitely aim for a win to become the first player to win it thrice. 

She is currently in great form, as seen in her recent performances at other WTA events this year. She is the second-seeded player after Aryna Sabalenka, which makes her an obvious choice for the top contenders for the trophy.

Madison Keys

Madison Keys is known for her aggressive baseline game and powerful forehand. She achieved a career-high ranking of World Number 5 and has won 10 WTA singles titles, but what sets her apart is her recent Grand Slam victory at the Australian Open 2025. 

While she hasn’t won an Indian Wells Open title yet, she has had a mixed history at the tournament reaching later stages in her early years. However, she’s in exceptional form as of now, especially after winning her Australian Open title by defeating World Number 1 Aryna Sabalenka in the finals. 

With a win-loss record of 14-1 this season and two titles already under her name, she entered the tournament as one of the top contenders for the trophy.

Aryna Sabalenka

Aryna Sabalenka is currently the World Number 1 in the singles category and has won 18 WTA singles titles, including three Grand Slam titles. She also has six doubles titles under her name. 

She has had a good performance at the Indian Wells Open, with her best being in 2023 when she reached the finals. Last year, she did not perform well, so she will definitely be looking for a victory this year.

Coco Gauff

Coco Gauff is a professional tennis player from Florida with a career-high ranking of World Number 2 in singles and 1 in doubles. She has won nine WTA singles titles, including the US Open and the WTA Finals in 2024. 

She has consistently participated at the Indian Wells Open but hasn’t won the trophy yet. Her best performance was in 2023 when she reached the semifinals but lost to her opponent. 

She has shown a good form this year. She is ranked World Number 3 and reached the semifinals of the Australian Open, making her a definite choice for the top contenders at the tournament.
