IPL 2021: KKR’s inning put them in trouble as they posts a low total
KKR had a disappointing day in batting as they had to settle for low scores as their batsmen were outclassed by the RR bowlers

Kolkata Knight Riders did not surely have the day they hoped for. With their batsmen getting out for low scores, the team couldn’t capitalize on scoring constant runs.
The innings were opened by Nitish Rana and Shubhman Gill where both the players were in decent form over the last games. Both the players sought to take some time, cover the roots, and then hit the boundaries but it took them longer than expected and the team lost the wicket of Shubhman Gill through a run-out for just 24 runs in 5.3 overs. It was one of the lowest powerplay scores for KKR in today’s match.
Further, as Nitish Rana was in good touch and had taken a lot of time in the middle, the team expected him to start the business but his innings were also cut short in the ninth over by Chetan Sakariya as he got dismissed 22(25). After the team lost both their openers for low scores and more deliveries the team sent Sunil Narine to hit some balls beyond the boundary and move the scoreboard but he followed the other batsmen soon as he got dismissed off just 6 runs in 7 balls on the last over of the 10th over.

With the constantly deteriorating condition, Rahul Tripathi took the charge and showed some intent as he scored 36 runs off 26 balls with 2 sixes and 1 four which allowed the team to breathe slightly easy but he couldn’t get the hand of the skipper Eoin Morgan who was run out due to a fumble and exited for his 2nd consecutive low score in this year’s IPL. Rahul Tripathi also got out in the 16th over after playing his cameo taking the score to 94/5.
With 4 more overs left to go KKR still had a chance to take the score to a defendable total having their most destructive batsman Andre Russell and Dinesh Kartik on strike. Kartik contributed some valuable runs by scoring 25 runs off 24 balls hitting 4 fours. Russell was expected to show his muscle power where it was needed the most, one six off Morris’ delivery in the 18th overs raised some hopes for a good finish but he was caught in the deep by David Miller off the very next ball he played and the team’s situation got more worsened at 117/6. Kartik soon followed in the next to the next ball and got dismissed at 118/7. The end total was 133/9,
The remaining players- Prasidh Krishna, Pat Cummins, and Shubham Mavi couldn’t contribute much as they couldn’t manage to play. Cummins did hit a six off Morris’ ball but faltered on the very next ball.
In the end, it was a hard day for the KKR batsmen where they couldn’t manage to play well and went away for easy dismissals. The team would look forward to making corrections on what things went wrong and try to defend the total against the Rajasthan Royals.
