IPL 2021: ‘Slow start’ for Mumbai Indians as Punjab Kings completely dominates the Powerplay overs

The bowling department of Punjab Kings totally dominated in the powerplays against the champions Mumbai Indians. Punjab conceded just 21 runs in the first six overs and got the wicket of De Kock. Mumbai batsmen struggled throughout and just managed to hit one boundary in the first six overs. This was the lowest score in powerplay at Chepauk in the IPL14 season and the 4th lowest powerplay score for Mumbai in the history of IPL.

Henriques bowled three overs of the first six and just conceded 12 runs with an economy of 4. Punjab’s Captain Rahul gambled with Deepak Hooda and gave him the second over. Hooda gave the breakthrough as the Mumbai wicket-keeper looked impatient and was caught on the last ball of the second over. Shami bowled the last over and maintained the pressure built by Hooda and Henriques.

The M A Chidambaram Stadium of Chennai is now famous for a low-scoring match as the average first inning score on the ground is 157. Mumbai is known for its destructive batting lineup and was expected to score a good total in front of the Punjab bowling lineup.
