On April 26, 2023, M Chinnaswamy Stadium will host the 36th game of the Tata IPL 2023 between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore. It will be the first home game between RCB and KKR since 2019. For three years, the IPL did not use the home-away format because of the contagious Covid-19. Let’s look at the head-to-head statistics between KKR and RCB.

The fierce rivalry between the Bangalore and Kolkata-based teams dates back to the IPL’s inaugural match in 2008, when KKR scored 222 runs in the first innings for RCB. Brendon McCullum deserves praise for his brilliant unbeaten 158 off 73 balls. However, the bowling attack, led by Ajit Agarkar, bowled them out for just 82 runs, humiliating them by 140 runs.

As KKR packed RCB to score the lowest-ever IPL total of 49 runs while defending a modest total of 132 runs in 2017 at Eden Gardens, millions of spectators witnessed another instance of rivalry. Even their bitter rival KKR has not received any mercy from RCB. The RCB bowlers wreaked havoc on KKR during the 39th game of the 2020 IPL, bowling them out for 84 runs and ultimately winning the match by 8 wickets.

In terms of head-to-head competition, KKR and RCB have faced off 32 times, with KKR holding the advantage with 18 victories; thus far, RCB has prevailed on 14 occasions.

The last time these two powerful teams faced off against one another was in the ninth game of the 2023 IPL at Eden Gardens, where KKR defeated RCB by an enormous margin of 81 runs. While defending a strong target of 205 runs, Varun Chakravarthy’s 4-fer and debutant Suyash Sharma’s 3-fer choked RCB for only 123 runs. At number seven, all-arounder Shardul Thakur embarrassed the RCB bowling staff with a rampage knock of 68 off 29 balls, and Rinku Singh added 46 in 33 balls to help KKR post 204 runs in 20 overs.

Cricket fans watch a thriller every time Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore play, in addition to head-to-head statistics. For 120 minutes, neither team’s players show signs of boredom nor exhaustion. Overall, the sport of cricket is successful.
