IPL 2025: Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya shared an update on Jasprit Bumrah’s return during the toss on Friday (April 4), before the match against Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
Hardik Pandya Shares Update on Bumrah at Toss
Bumrah has been recovering from a lower back problem since January. He last played in the Sydney Test against Australia, where he got injured on the second day and couldn’t continue. Due to the injury, he also missed India’s successful ICC Champions Trophy campaign.
He was included in the initial squad for the tournament as he was expected to be fit in time. However, he didn’t fully recover and was left out of the final team. Later, reports said Bumrah would miss IPL games in March but was likely to join the Mumbai Indians in April.
Hardik Pandya Remains Hopeful About Bumrah’s Comeback
Even though it’s already April, Bumrah hasn’t joined the MI squad yet. But captain Hardik Pandya is hopeful and said at the toss that Bumrah should be back with the team soon.
“I think we in a group have spoken that we don’t want to talk about the wickets. We are here to play good cricket. That’s the talk we have had. Let’s not talk about the surfaces as a team. I think adaptation (key to success in IPL).”
“Sticking to right plans and being smart. Lot of runs are being scored. Cricket is situation based. Rohit was hit on the knee during practice . He is missing out. Jasprit (Bumrah) should be back soon,” said Pandya.
Meanwhile, a report from ESPNcricinfo has mentioned that Jasprit Bumrah is also likely to miss Mumbai Indians‘ next match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. He is currently working on increasing his bowling workload at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.
According to the report, Bumrah is close to taking his final fitness tests. He will only be allowed to join the MI squad once he gets clearance from the BCCI medical team.
