IPL 2025 Playoffs: On Tuesday (May 20), the BCCI announced the new schedule for the IPL 2025 playoffs and final. The tournament, which was originally set to end with the final on May 23, had to be rescheduled because of cross-border tensions with Pakistan.
BCCI Announces Rescheduled IPL 2025 Playoffs and Final Dates
The IPL was suspended on May 9 for a week and resumed on May 17 with the match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore. The final is now set to take place on June 3.
Before the suspension, Hyderabad and Kolkata were supposed to host the playoffs and final. However, the BCCI decided on new venues for the playoffs, considering weather and other factors, with guidance from the IPL Governing Council.
The BCCI has announced that the first two games of the IPL 2025 playoffs will be held at the New PCA Stadium in New Chandigarh. The first qualifier will take place there on May 29, between the top two teams in the points table. The Eliminator match, between the third and fourth-placed teams, will also be played in New Chandigarh on May 30.
“After 70 action-packed league-stage matches filled with energy, drama, thrill, and entertainment; the spotlight will shift to the New PCA Stadium in New Chandigarh as it gears up to host the much-awaited Qualifier 1 – featuring the top-two ranked sides on Thursday, May 29 followed by an engrossing Eliminator clash on Friday, 30 May,” the BCCI stated in a release.
The BCCI has confirmed that the IPL 2025 final will be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The second qualifier will also be played there on June 1, and the final will take place on June 3.
“The Qualifier 2, to be played between the loser of Qualifier 1 and the winner of the Eliminator, will take place on Sunday, June 1. The highly-anticipated summit clash, which will crown the winner of the 18th Season of TATA IPL, is set to be played on Tuesday, June 3,” the BCCI stated.
The BCCI also confirmed that the 65th match of the tournament between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Sunrisers Hyderabad has been moved from Bengaluru to Lucknow due to bad weather in Bengaluru.
Additionally, the BCCI has added an extra hour to the remaining IPL 2025 league matches.
“Similar to the playoffs stage, an additional one hour will be allocated to the playing conditions for the remaining matches of the league stage, starting Tuesday, 20 May,” the statement read.
So far, Gujarat Titans, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Punjab Kings have already secured their spots in the playoffs. Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals are now competing for the final playoff spot.
