Men’s world number one Jannik Sinner pairs up with the with Emma Navarro, in the revamped US Open mixed doubles event. Navarro is the world no. 9 who reached the women’s singles semi-finals in 2024.
The 16 pairings announced by the USTA on Tuesday are not guaranteed to play in the event, although it is an indication the players involved are keen on participating. The line-up features nine of the world’s top 10 ranked men’s and women’s players
Lew Sherr, the USTA’s chief executive, said the tournament was always “confident” of getting the world’s leading players involved.
“Seeing the teams that have already put their names on the entry list makes us all incredibly excited,” he said.
In a complete overhaul of the previous doubles format, 16 teams will compete from 19-20 August. Eight teams received direct entry through their rankings, while the remaining eight spots were allocated wildcards.
Matches will be held in a best-of-three format up to four games, with no advantage points and a 10-point tiebreak should the match require a decider, instead of the typical third set.
French Open champion Carlos Alcaraz is set to pair up with British number one Emma Raducanut.
Spanish five-time Grand Slam champion Alcaraz says he approached Raducanu about teaming up through their agents, adding the 22-year-old Briton needed “time to think a little bit” before agreeing.
“I’m super excited about it. I think it’s going to be great. It was an amazing idea for the tournament,” Alcaraz said.
“We will try to win. But obviously it’s going to be really, really fun.”
Tokyo 2020 Olympic champions Belinda Bencic and Alexander Zverev make up another high-profile pairing. Paris 2024 reigning singles champion Novak Djokovic partnered with Olga Danilovic while women’s winner Zheng Qinwen will play alongside Jack Draper.
Defending women’s singles champion and world number one Aryna Sabalenka teams up with Grigor Dimitrov, while power couple Paula Badosa and Stefanos Tsitsipas will renew their on-court partnership once again.
