Kane Williamson is likely to miss the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 after suffering a knee injury in the IPL 2023
During Gujarat Titans’ first game against Chennai Super Kings, the New Zealand captain Kane Williamson was hurt while fielding.

The New Zealand cricket team has been dealt a significant blow as its captain, Kane Williamson, is unlikely to participate in the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup. This news follows his departure from the Indian Premier League (IPL) to return to New Zealand for an injury assessment. Williamson had previously sustained a knee injury while fielding during a match between Chennai Super Kings and his latest franchise, Gujarat Titans.
During the 13th over of the first innings, Williamson had landed awkwardly after valiantly saving two runs for the team by stopping a ball from becoming a six. He had put his weight on his right knee, which resulted in a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament.
Williamson’s absence from the tournament will be a significant setback for New Zealand’s preparation. As he is one of the team’s most important assets, his absence will require the management to reconsider their strategy and reorganize the team. Williamson has played in 161 ODI matches with an impressive average of 47.83.
Williamson, who is focused on undergoing surgery and rehabilitation, has expressed his disappointment about the injury. He is determined to do everything possible to return to the field as soon as he can.
New Zealand coach Gary Stead has stated that Williamson’s absence would require a lot of work for the management to rethink their plans and responsibilities for the team. Although they haven’t given up hope, Stead has expressed doubt that Williamson will be able to recover in time for the tournament. Tom Latham is the first-choice captain in Williamson’s absence and is expected to lead the team in the World Cup, which is set to start on October 5.
