Mercedes 2026 Lineup Confirmed: George Russell And Kimi Antonelli Contract Extends

4 Min Read

If there is one thing Formula 1 fans have been waiting for as much, if not more than Lewis Hamilton’s podium with Ferrari, it’s Mercedes 2026 lineup. And the wait is finally over! The team has officially confirmed that the current drivers, George Russell and rookie Kimi Antonelli, will be driving for Mercedes next year.

After months of speculations, contract negotiations, and even rumours about Max Verstappen potentially joining the Silver Arrows, Mercedes has decided to keep their trusted duo intact as they gets ready for a new tech era in 2026.

The Star Of Mercedes: George Russell

George Russell joined Mercedes in 2022 after a solid stint at Williams and has signed a new contract to continue his journey with the team as Mercedes 2026 lineup. This will mark his 10th year since signing with Mercedes’ junior program way back in 2017. Russell is no stranger to victory, bagging five Grand Prix wins already, including a recent win in Singapore. This makes him a very deserving candidate for the team as he finally steps out of Lewis Hamilton‘s shadow.

The Rookie Of The Season: Kimi Antonelli

Now, about Kimi Antonelli, the rookie who’s got everyone talking. Despite some ups and downs during the season, like that impressive Sprint pole in Miami and a historic podium finish in Canada (making him the youngest podium finisher ever!), Antonelli bounced back stronger with top-five finishes in Baku and Singapore. Mercedes’ junior program clearly struck gold again with this Italian talent, and the team’s confidence in him is crystal clear with the new contract extension.

Toto Wolff Sums Up Mercedes 2026 Lineup Perfectly

Mercedes boss Toto Wolff summed it up perfectly, saying, “Confirming our driver line-up was always just a matter of when, not if. George and Kimi have proved a strong pairing, and we’re excited to continue our journey together.” Considering the team is locked in a tight fight for second place in the Constructors’ Championship right now, stability in the driver lineup feels like the right call.

George Russell himself sounded pumped about the deal, saying, “I am really proud to be continuing our journey together. Next year will mark my 10th since I signed with Mercedes. We’re all incredibly focused on making the next season a success, especially with one of the biggest regulation changes in F1 history looming.”

Meanwhile, Antonelli shared equal enthusiasm: “I’m super excited to be continuing. The season has taught me a lot, both highs and lows. Now it’s about finishing strong and gearing up for 2026.”

With Mercedes officially putting their faith in Russell and Antonelli, the F1 grid for 2026 is taking shape, but the drama is far from over, with several other seats still open, including the likes of Red Bull and Alpine.
