Novak Djokovic Pulls Out From ATP Finals 2024 Due To Injury

Novak Djokovic has announced that he will not be competing at the ATP Finals 2024 in Turin this month.

The Serb will not return to defend the ATP Finals crown, which he won in 2023, citing injury reasons for his withdrawal from the year-ending tournament.

Novak Djokovic posted on Instagram, “It’s quite an honour to qualify for the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin. I was really looking forward to being there, but due to ongoing injury I won’t be playing next week.

“Apologies to those who were planning to see me. Wishing all the players a great tournament. See you soon!”

Earlier, the 24-time Grand Slam winner had pulled out of the Paris Masters 2024 which concluded this weekend.

The ace tennis player has a win-loss record of 37-9 this season. The highlight of the season for Djokovic was the winning of a gold medal at Paris Olympics 2024 as he completed a golden slam. 

The 37-year-old played at the Six Kings Slam exhibition that was held in Dubai. Since then, he has been missing from on-court actions. 

Djokovic was on the brink of securing qualification for the Turin finals, sitting sixth in the 2024 ATP rankings with 3,910 points. The top eight in the ATP Rankings up to 9 November, would qualify for the season-ending tournament, though only counting points won in 2024.

Now, his withdrawal five days before the start of the tournament opens the door for the ninth best-ranked player in the men’s singles for this year to earn his spot at the showpiece event. 

The ATP Finals 2024 will take place in Italy from 10-17 November.

World number one Jannik Sinner was the first player to book his place at the ATP Finals, having sat on top of the rankings since June. Sinner returns to home soil in Turin where he aims to avenge his 2023 final defeat and go one better.

Paris Masters champion Alexander Zverev will target his  third ATP Finals title after victories in 2018 and 2021.

Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz became the third player to qualify for the season finale, in a year where he has won two Grand Slams and has a 100% win record against rival Jannik Sinner.

2020 champion Daniil Medvedev is heading to the ATP Finals for the sixth year in a row, alongside US Open finalist Taylor Fritz.
