1. Rafael Nadal

Rafael Nadal, the 22-time Grand Slam champion, was the biggest player in tennis who announced his retirement from the sport this season. The Davis Cup Finals 2024 in November served as his farewell event. The 38-year-old featured at the Six Kings Slam and lost both his matches. The 14-time French Open champion has been affected by multiple injuries and played only 19 matches on the ATP Tour this season. He also feature at the Paris Olympics 2024.

2. Andy Murray

Andy Murray retired from tennis after playing at the 2024 Paris Olympics alongside countryman Daniel Evans. The Wimbledon Championships also organized a heartwarming farewell ceremony for Murray on Centre Court, where the likes of Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz, Iga Swiatek and more were present. Three-time Grand Slam champion, while announcing his retirment, stated that he never liked the sport.

He’s the first male tennis player to defend the gold medal at the singles event at the Olympics. Moreover, along with Stan Wawrinka, he’s also the only tennis star to win multiple Grand Slam titles during the peak “Big Three” era. Murray was also the ATP World No. 1 for a total of 41 weeks.

3. Dominic Thiem

Austria’s Dominic Thiem is another player who retired from tennis in 2024. The 30-year-old  former US Open champion retired at the Vienna Open this season, at is home tournament. He suffered a wrist injury during the 2021 Mallorca Championships, which  ended up derailing his career. The two-time French Open runner-up  was facilitated at Stade Roland Garros. Meanwhile, he received a wildcard at the 2024 US Open.

4. Garbine Muguruza

Garbine Muguruza, the two-time Grand Slam champion,  also bid adeiu to tennis in 2024. The WTA World No. 1 Iga Swiatek heaped praise on former Spanish tennis star after she announced her retirement. After winning the 2017 Wimbledon, Muguruza also reached the top spot in the rankings.

Muguruza’s career got hampered by injuries. In January 2023, she took a hiatus from the court after losing in the first round at the Australian Open. She put curtains down to her 12-year old career by formally announced her retirement from tennis on 20 April 2024 at the age of 30.

5. Camila Giorgi

Camila Giorgi, who won four singles titles also played her last match of tennis in 2024. The former Italian tennis star played her last professional match against Iga Swiatek of Poland in the second round at the Miami Open. Giorgi, the former Wimbledon quarter-finalist achieved her career-best ranking was 26.
