PSG beat Olympique Lyonnais 2-1 to go top of the table in Ligue 1

Mauro Icardi and Neymar scored for the Parisians to complete the comeback against a good Lyon side.

PSG beat Lyon at home

PSG came from behind to win 2-1 at home against Olympique Lyonnais. Lucas Paqueta gave Lyon a surprising lead. However, Neymar and Icardi found the net for Paris to complete the comeback win. PSG now tops the Ligue 1 table as they have won all of their six matches played.

Messi missed a great chance when he hit the ball straight at the goalkeeper inside the box after a beautiful combination with Neymar.

Subsequently, the Argentine once again came very close to open his goal account for Paris in the 36th minute when his free-kick rattled the cross-bar.

Second Half

Lyon went ahead nine minutes into the second half when Karl Ekambi played Paqueta through. The Brazilian beat Donnarumma at the end of a late run into the area to put Lyon ahead.

Neymar was brought down inside the box by Malo Gusto. The Brazilian coolly slotted the ball past Lopes to convert the resulting penalty in the 66th minute.

In the 76th minute, Pochettino made a strange decision of taking Messi off the pitch. He was replaced by Achraf Hakimi on the right-hand side. Subsequently, Messi was seen frustrated by the manager’s decision. Meanwhile, Icardi headed home the winner for the table-toppers in the injury time. Mbappe played a looping cross from the left-hand side for the Argentinian and the striker did not make any mistake in putting the ball into the back of the net.

Messi has still not contributed a goal or assist in all competitions since joining PSG on a free transfer from Barcelona this summer. Meanwhile, Pochettino talked about Messi’s substitution in the post-match interview. He said

“Everybody knows that Messi is a great player. There are five subs (available) and it’s obvious that players never like to come off the field. One has to make decisions. I’m on the bench to make decisions. His reaction? Fine, no worries.”

Meanwhile, PSG next plays Metz on Wednesday, 22nd of September in the Ligue 1.
