Facing an initial setback in the opening set, Ramkumar struggled to find his rhythm, impacting both his serves and returns as Nardi dominated. However, the Indian ace regrouped at the commencement of the second set, showcasing an impressive 93% first serve points won and avoiding any break points. Nardi, on the other hand, faced consistent pressure on his serve, setting the stage for a decisive third set.
The final set mirrored the pattern of the second, with Ramkumar unleashing his powerful serves, including five aces, and elevating his second serve percentage. The wild card entry secured a 1-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory in an hour and 33 minutes, marking the biggest upset of the day.
With this remarkable win, Ramkumar Ramanathan advances to the quarterfinals and will face the winner of the match between ninth seed Seongchan Hong of South Korea and Russian qualifier Alexey Zakharov.
The Bengaluru Open, a prestigious ATP Challenger event, is hosted by the Karnataka State Lawn Tennis Association, with the final scheduled for Sunday. Ramkumar’s impressive performance adds an exciting chapter to the tournament, showcasing his determination and prowess on the court.
