RSPB Boxers Dominate Semifinals, Set to Secure Six Gold Medals

RSPB anticipates six boxers securing spots in the finals at the 7th Elite Women’s National Boxing Championships. Anamika, Jyoti, Shiksha, Sonia Lather, Nandini, and Nupur lead.

The Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) is poised for a remarkable victory with its boxers securing six gold medal opportunities at the 7th Elite Women’s National Boxing Championships taking place at the GBU Indoor Stadium.

In the semifinals held on Tuesday, the RSPB boxers exhibited stellar performances, earning spots in the final bouts. Anamika (50kg), Jyoti (52kg), Shiksha (54kg), Sonia Lather (57kg), Nandini (75kg), and Nupur (81+kg) showcased their prowess, setting the stage for a dominant showing in the championship.

Anamika, last year’s 50kg runner-up, will face Haryana’s Kalpana in the final, aiming to improve her previous medal. In the semis, Anamika secured a referee-stopped contest (RSC) decision in the second round against Manipur’s Maibam Rosemary Chanu, while Kalpana emerged victorious with a comprehensive 5-0 win over Ekta Saroj of Punjab.

Jyoti (52kg) outclassed Assam’s Bhupali Hazarika, prompting the referee to stop the contest, and she will now face Shvinder Kaur Sidhu in the summit clash. In the 60kg category, Commonwealth Games bronze medalist Jaismine secured a 5-0 victory, setting up a final clash with Simranjit Kaur Baath.

Sonu (63kg) continued her winning streak with a 5-0 victory over Uttar Pradesh’s Rinky Sharma, earning her a spot in the final against Haryana’s Prachi. Youth World Champion Ankushita Boro (66kg) secured her place in the final with a 5-0 verdict over Himachal Pradesh’s Deepika, and she will face Arundhati Choudhary in the title clash.

In the 81kg category, Saweety Boora of Haryana, the 2023 World Championship gold medalist, emerged victorious with a 5-0 win against Assam’s Bhagyabati Kachari. Sweety will contend for the title against Mizoram’s Lalfakmawii Ralte, who defeated AIP’s Sushma with a 4-1 verdict.

Defending Heavyweight champion Nupur secured a place in the final with a dominant 5-0 victory over Elura Borgohain. She is set to face Haryana’s Ritikia in a bid to retain her title after Ritikia’s impressive performance against Monika in the semifinals.

The ongoing championship, organized by the Boxing Federation of India, has witnessed the participation of over 300 boxers competing across 12 categories.
