The remarkable career of Nepal’s leg spinner Sandeep Lamichhane took a new turn on Wednesday when it was announced that he would have his first at in-country cricket by playing for Worcestershire in the upcoming England’s T20 Blast.
Being just a 20-year-old and not hailing from any major cricket nation, Sandeep is now an experienced T20 campaigner, following changes in the Indian Premier League among other domestic competitions.
Once in the team at Worcestershire, Lamichhane will reunite with his old mate, Riki Wessels, with whom he had played for Lahore Qalandar in the Pakistan Super League.
“Sandeep has played in many tournaments and gained a lot of experience in franchise cricket,” Worcestershire coach Alex Gidman stated in a club statement.
“This is his first taste of playing in England, and I’m sure he will do well and have an enjoyable summer with us,” he continued.
The 20-year-old’s break came when he was snapped by IPL’s Delhi Capitals, coached by another ex-Australia captain in January 2018.
