Sourav Ganguly lauded Virat Kohli’s decision to step down as India’s T201 captain
Virat Kohli announced on Thursday that he would step down as India’s T20I captain. He would be doing so after the T20 World Cup. BCCI President Sourav Ganguly lauded this decision via an official tweet. The decision was taken after speaking with Ravi Shastri and other match officials. Virat Kohli took over as India’s T20I skipper in 2017 after MS Dhoni left the role. He will also be leading the national team in the upcoming T20 World Cup for the first time. Virat will continue to lead team India in Tests and ODI formats. However, BCCI has also confirmed that Kohli will continue to be available for selection for the T20 format post World Cup.
In a tweet shared by Ganguly, he mentions that Virat Kohli is a true asset to Indian cricket. He also shared that he was the most successful captain in all the formats. The decision was also taken keeping in mind the future roadmap. “We thank Virat for his tremendous performance as the T20I Captain. We wish him all the best for the upcoming World Cup and beyond and hope that he continues to score plenty of runs for India”, he further added. Honorary Secretary Jay Shah mentioned that considering the smooth transition of captaincy in the future and to reduce workload the decision has been made.
Best of luck to Virat Kohli and Team India!
