The Sudirman Cup 2025 has been one of the most prestigious tournaments in badminton since its inception in 1989. The competition features matches across five categories: men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles. The competition is named after a legendary Indonesia badminton player, Dick Sudirman, and attracts top-class players from around the world.
The 2025 edition is scheduled for 27 April to 4 May 2025 in Xiamen, China. A total of 16 teens will be eyeing the title, with China being the defending champion and the record holder with 13 titles.
On 15 April, the Badminton Association of India (BAI) announced the Sudirman Cup 2025 Indian Squad via its social media platforms, specifically on X. The post stated, “Squad locked. BAI General Secretary Sanjay Mishra expressed his confidence in the Sudirman Cup 2025 Indian Squad and said, “The selectors have picked the best possible combination in all the five categories despite some injury worries. We are no longer dependent on one or two disciplines to win the tie, and that makes us a formidable force in any team event. We are confident that the team will not only make its mark in the group stages but can go on to create history by winning a medal.”

The Sudirman Cup 2025 Indian Squad features some of the strongest badminton players of the nation, like Lakshya Sen and HS Prannoy, who have delivered strong performances in the past. Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu will lead the charge in the women’s singles category, while Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty return from a major injury blow for the Sudirman Cup 2025.

The Sudirman Cup 2025 Indian Squad will open its campaign against Denmark on 27 April, followed by Indonesia on 29 April and England on 1 May. The top two teams will advance to the knockout stage.
