However, the Indian batters had other plans as the opening pair of Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhiradded 136 runs for the first wicket and laid a strong platform for the incoming batters to capatalize on, and they did so by posting an above-par total of 218 runs in the 20-over quota.

The Record

India ended up winning the match comfortably in the end courtesy of some good bowling at the backend of thechase but the highlight of the games Yuvraj Singh, who became the first batter to hit six sixes in an over in T20I cricket and score the fastest half-century by a batter in international cricket, a record which is still intact as far as full member nations are concerned.

IND vs ENG, T20 World Cup 2009, England Won by Three Runs

The 2009 T20 World Cup was a forgettable one for the Men in Blue as they failed to proceed to the second round of the competition, courtesy of some below-par performances, one of which came against England.

Chasing 154 runs to win, India fell short by three runs after losing too many wickets upfront, and a 63-run partnership for the fifth wicket between MS Dhoni and Yusuf Pathan wasn’t enough to take the team over the line.

The 2012 T20 World Cup that took place in Sri Lanka saw India test England with spin after posting 170 runs on the board and bowling England out for a score of 80, thereby winning the game by 90 runs with Harbhajan Singh and Pyush Chawla taking six wickets between them.

India failed to pick up a single wicket after posting 168 runs on the board, courtesy of a partnership between Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya that brought the team back in the game after a slow start.
