Sri Lanka’s dominating performance led them to win by 20 runs against West Indies
1st Innings – Sri Lanka puts 189 Runs on the board
Sri Lanka had a good start, as the run rate was around 8 in the starting overs. Then Andre Russell provides the breakthrough for West Indies, as he caught & bowled Kusal Perera – 29 Runs (off 21 balls). Sri Lanka was 42/1 (5.2 overs).
Then a 91 Run stand between Pathum Nissanka and Charith Asalanka made sure their dominating performance continued. However, then the 23-year-old Pathum Nissanka’s fine innings of 51 (off 41 balls) came to an end. With that, Sri Lanka was at 133/2 in 15.3 overs.
Towards the end, Charith Asalanka departed scoring 68 (off 41 balls), Sri Lanka was 179/3 (18.4 overs). Then Captain Dasun Shanaka’s 25* (off 14 balls) made sure their innings finished at 189/3 (20 overs).
2nd Innings – West Indies’s Target is 190 Runs
By the end of the powerplay, West Indies were three down as Chris Gayle, Evin Lewis and Roston Chase lost their wickets. West Indies was at 47/3 in 5.3 overs.
However, Nicholas Pooran played a fine knock of 46 (off 34 balls) before losing his wicket. Then another batter got dismissed, Andre Russell. With that, West Indies were 94/5 (13.1 overs).
But then three wickets fall in quick succession, of Kieron Pollard, Jason Holder and Dwayne Bravo. West Indies were struggling, they were 131/8 in 16.6 overs.
