World Athletics Relays 2025 is set to take place from May 10-11 in Guangzhou, People’s Republic of China and Team USA are ready to shine.
USA are going with a strong squad of 29 athletes and nine Olympians, six of whom competed at the most recent Olympic Games of Paris 2024.
The squad features Olympic medallists Erriyon Knighton, Kenny Bednarek, and Twanisha Terry.
Terry was crowned Olympic champion in the Paris Olympics 2024 as part of the women’s 4 x 100m relay team, while two-time Olympic silver medals in the men’s 200m Bednarek was part of the men’s 4 x 100m relay team who were disqualified from the final in Paris. He was also in the team that won gold at the 2024 World Relays in Nassau.
Other Paris 2024 medallists include two-time medallists Kendall Ellis and Lynna Irby-Jackson, as well as Rio 2016 women’s 4 x 400m relay champion Courtney Okolo.
There is no dearth of Olympic experience for Team USA, with Tokyo 2020 relay bronze medallist Elija Godwin also included in the roster.
The World Athletics Relays 2025 will take place over two days in China, as the top 14 countries in each relay, alongside the next two fastest times, will qualify for the 2025 World Athletics Championships being held later this year in Tokyo, Japan.
Each country is allowed to enter one team per event, with up to eight athletes listed per team. From these, any four can be selected to compete on race day, offering flexibility in athlete selection.
The World Athletics Relays marks the seventh edition of the global meet and the first time it will be staged in China, following previous editions in the Bahamas, Japan and Poland.

This year’s edition is historic for the global debut of the 4×100 metres mixed relay. The event, which follows a woman-woman-man-man order, will be run for the first time on the world stage in Guangzhou.
Records in the event will be officially recognised by World Athletics from January 1, 2026, with performances from 2025 used to set the initial benchmark. The event will also feature at the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championship in Budapest in 2026.
