The Super Bowl is undoubtedly one of, if not the most anticipated events on the sporting calendar. Since it debuted as the “Super Bowl” in 1969, the occasion has witnessed some truly historic confrontations.
In this article, we will discuss in greater detail the five most iconic games in the annals of American football.
This was an extremely high-scoring, all-out offensive game despite neither team scoring in the first or third quarters. It appeared as though the game might go down to the wire because the teams were knotted 29-29. The Panthers have never previously played in a Super Bowl. Even though they were the underdogs, they weren’t going down without a fight. Although it appeared that the game would go into overtime, the powerful Tom Brady had other plans. With fewer than ten seconds remaining, the quarterback set up Adam Viniateri for a 41-yard field goal that gave the Patriots a 32-39 victory.
The Eagles won the Lombardi Trophy for Philadelphia for the first time in Super Bowl LII after a dramatic battle between the Eagles and the Patriots. After a thrilling game that saw the score go back and forth, the final score was 41–33. But the contest between the two teams wasn’t the only thing that stood out about it. Many people will recall how Carson Wentz’s replacement, Nick Foles, handled the situation when Wentz tore his ACL during the regular season. Later, Foles was named the game’s MVP.
Both the Giants and the Bills gave it their all to win the championship, but the game saw one of the most egregious errors in Super Bowl history. The Bills were down with less than ten seconds left when Scott Norwood missed his 47-yard field goal attempt. He would have given the Bills the victory if he had scored. Some claim that Thurman Thomas’s 135-yard, one-touchdown effort was more historic than the actual game. The Bills’ agonizing streak of four straight championship appearances and losses would begin with the loss.
The Patriots had a chance to become the first unbeaten team to win a title since the 1972 Miami Dolphins in this contest. The team was 18-0, and stars Randy Moss and Tom Brady both set records during the year. The Giants were about to ruin the party in advance, which the Patriots were unaware of. They took a 10-7 advantage into the game’s fourth quarter, which was when things really heated up. But instead of letting anyone ruin their hopes of a flawless season, the Patriots fiercely retaliated. However, Eli Manning’s game-winning touchdown would give the Giants the upper hand. It would take some time before the Patriots had their ideal season.
The Broncos defeated the Packers 31–24 in this game between the two teams. However, the Broncos were interested in more than simply a trophy; they also wanted to maintain their team’s honor. After losing three Super Bowls in increasingly embarrassing fashion from 1987 to 1990, the Broncos have begun to be made fun of. They would ultimately exercise the demons in this Super Bowl, and they would also triumph in the one after that. The Packers did their best to make the Broncos seem foolish by rallying from a 10-point deficit to tie the game, making it a nerve-wracking contest for them. With only 1:45 remaining in the game, Terrel Davis would spare the Broncos any further embarrassment with a third running touchdown.
