Early Life and Background
Todd Murphy was born in Echuca, Victoria, and grew up in Moama, New South Wales, just a stone’s throw from the Murray River. The love of cricket runs deep within the family.
His father, Jamie Murphy, featured in eight seasons for the St Kilda Cricket Club in Victorian Premier Cricket and was at one stage a teammate of Australian legend Shane Warne. Murphy started playing cricket with the Moama Cricket Club as a top-order batsman and medium-paced right-arm bowler.
Transition to Spin Bowling
A defining moment in Todd Murphy’s career came in 2017 when former leg-spinner Craig Howard saw his potential during the net sessions and urged him to bowl spin. Taking that advice on board, Murphy turned to off-spin-a decision that would re define his future in Australian cricket.
