The Premier League 2023-24 season commenced on August 11, 2023, and is set to conclude on May 19, 2024, featuring a total of 20 teams engaging in 380 matches over a nine-month period.
The participating teams in the league are Arsenal, Aston Villa, Bournemouth, Brentford, Brighton & Hove Albion, Burnley, Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Everton, Fulham, Liverpool, Luton Town, Manchester City, Manchester United, Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest, Sheffield United, Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United, and Wolverhampton Wanderers. Burnley, Sheffield United, and Luton Town are the three promoted teams from the EFL Championship.
In the double round-robin format, each team will face all others twice, and the team finishing at the top of the standings after all matches will claim the Premier League title. Defending champions Manchester City secured their seventh title last season, beating Arsenal by five points.
Aside from the league title, attention is focused on the race for the Premier League Golden Boot, awarded to the player with the most goals. Last season, Manchester City’s Erling Haaland claimed the Golden Boot with 36 goals in 35 appearances. In the 2021-22 season, Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah secured the award with 23 goals.
The all-time record for the most Premier League goals is held by former Newcastle United striker Alan Shearer, who scored 260 goals in 441 appearances, earning three Golden Boot awards in 1994-95, 1995-96, and 1996-97.
