Having scored for Portugal in the World Cup, Ronaldo, a former Manchester United legend, has now scored 819 goals overall. Where does he rank in terms of his overall career objectives considering that he has previously outscored other international players? In recent years, the incredible Ronaldo has eclipsed the legendary Austrian-Czech scorer Josef Bican. The Portuguese superstar, who has inscribed his name at the top of scoring records throughout history, has scored the most goals recognized by FIFA of anyone. However, Ronaldo is currently at the top of the list, moving ahead of the famous triumvirate of Romario, Ferenc Puskas, and Pele.

So, who else ranks among the top ten goal scorers in history?

10. Tulio Maravilha

575 goals (total games unknown) – 1988-2019

A journeyman Brazilian with a good eye for goal.

Tulio played for approximately 40 clubs during his career and only recently retired.

9, Uwe Seeler

575+ goals (total games unknown) – 1953-1978

Despite being prolific with Hamburger, the German great had trouble turning his goals into awards.

In his lone game for Cork Celtic of Ireland in 1978, he scored twice.

8. Ferenc Deak

576+ goals (total games unknown) – 1940-1957

A legend in his native country, albeit not to the same extent elsewhere in the globe, and one of Hungary’s best during their heyday.

Amazingly, Deak averaged more than three goals each game while playing for Szentlorinci AC.

7. Gerd Muller

734 goals in 793 games – 1962-1981

The decisive score in Germany’s 2-1 victory against the Netherlands in Munich in the 1974 World Cup final was the striker’s most significant goal.

Muller has far more goals than the next-best scorer and holds the record for Bayern Munich.

6. Ferenc Puskas

746+ goals in 754+ games – 1943-1966

Puskas, another legendary Hungarian figure, is now the name of the prize given annually for the most artistic goal.

Before becoming a Real Madrid legend, he established his reputation in Budapest.

5. Pele

757 goals in 831 games – 1957-1977

Among the all-time greats and a three-time World Cup victor.

In his 656 competitive matches for Santos, Pele averaged nearly one goal per game while claiming to have scored more than 1,000 goals in his career.

But it is generally acknowledged that a large number of those goals came during tours or friendly games. You’ll hear it from Pele.

4. Romario

772 goals 994 games – 1985-2007

Romario, who scored five goals during the competition, helped Brazil win the World Cup in 1994.

He had a successful career at several elite clubs all around the world.

3. Lionel Messi

793 goals in 1009 games – 2003-present

Messi, a true legend, scored many goals while playing for Barcelona and garnered numerous honors, including seven Ballon d’Ors.

The Argentine, who is currently at PSG, still has a few years to add to his incredible total.

Messi has already scored a brace at the World Cup in Qatar, and his most recent goal—which helped Argentina defeat Mexico 2-0—brought his total to an amazing 793

2. Josef Bican

805+ goals in 530+ games – 1931-1956

With 395 goals in 217 games for Slavia Prague, Bican held the record for most goals scored in a single season in football for more than 60 years.

But he’s now been outwitted at last.

Despite reports that he scored more than 1,500 goals during his playing career, only 805 of those goals were recognized by FIFA.

1. Cristiano Ronaldo

819 goals in 1,143 games – 2001-present

A contemporary legend for Juventus, Real Madrid, and Manchester United.

Ronaldo, who has continued to play well despite having won every game, has now surpassed Bican to add the largest record to his illustrious career.

Following his most recent goal against Ghana at the World Cup, Ronaldo’s record for goals is currently an absurd 819. With this goal, he became the only player to ever score in five different World Cups, yet he is far from finished.
