Tyson Fury is officially gearing up for a return to professional boxing in 2026, says his long-time promoter Frank Warren. The WBC heavyweight champion of the past had announced his retirement in January of 2025 following successive losses to Oleksandr Usyk, but now seems set to make one last attempt at it in the ring.
Warren clarified in a recent DAZN interview that he had spoken to Fury last week, and the 37-year-old Morecambe-born fighter is wholeheartedly set to fight once again next year.
“He told me flat out that he’s returning to fight in 2026,” Warren said.
Tyson Fury’s 2025 Retirement Followed Back-to-Back Defeats
Tyson Fury’s retirement in the early part of the year was his fourth time retiring. It was just weeks after he lost for the second time to Oleksandr Usyk on December 21, 2024.
Fury, who now holds a professional record of 34 wins, 2 losses, and 1 draw, with 24 knockouts, lost both bouts to Usyk by decision. The second defeat led many to believe Fury had finally called it quits.
But even away from competition in 2025, the heavyweight great still trained regularly and frequently posting videos of his training and gym sessions on social media, feeding rumours of a possible return to the ring.
2025: The Year Tyson Fury Made Documentaries and Off-Ring Ventures
Though Tyson Fury has not competed in 2025, he hasn’t remained still. The fighter has been occupied with several off-ring activities, such as shooting for new documentaries and creating more content for Netflix’s “At Home with the Furys.” Warren explained that Fury has been juggling different projects, with at least one documentary already out and another in post-production.
“He’s had a really busy year this year,” Warren said, “but now he’s ready to fight again.”
Fury had earlier indicated that his age would stop him from coming back, but his new intensity on the training ground and discussions with Warren indicate otherwise.
Who Will Tyson Fury Fight in 2026? Potential Opponents Explored
With Tyson Fury’s return talk in the air, some possible opponents have been thrown into the ring.
1. Oleksandr Usyk – Trilogy Bout
A third bout against Oleksandr Usyk appears to be Fury’s go-to choice. Despite both losing the previous encounters in 2024, a trilogy would attract enormous attention, particularly if Fury is looking to redeem those losses. There has been a reportedly proposed April 2026 date, although Usyk’s next fight is not officially scheduled.
2. Joseph Parker – An Uncomfortable Option
Joseph Parker, also a close friend to Tyson Fury, is also in the running for the title. The fight, however, may be complicated based on their close personal relationship. Parker is set to face Fabio Wardley on October 25, 2025, and the victor is expected to fight Usyk in 2026. If Parker emerges victorious, Fury might change his mind about fighting him.
3. Anthony Joshua – The Blockbuster Fight That Never Happened
One of the most long-awaited bouts in contemporary boxing history may finally be on: Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua. All the hype over years has not seen the two British heroes face off once. Joshua fought last in September 2024, losing by KO to Daniel Dubois, but is eyeing a return in early 2026. Both men have shown new enthusiasm for finally getting this bout in perhaps as part of a two-fight contract.
What’s Next for Tyson Fury?
Although nothing is confirmed as of now, Frank Warren confirmed that he will have a sit-down with Tyson Fury in the near future to plan his return in 2026 in a clear manner. This involves the choice of an opponent and the determination of a fight date.
It could be Usyk, Joshua, or Parker, but the world of boxing is awaiting as one of the sport’s biggest stars prepares for a high-pressure comeback.
