U-19 Women’s World Cup: Comprehensive Victory For IND
India Dominates West Indies in Under-19 Women’s World Cup opener with a comprehensive victory.

The defending champions India began their campaign in the Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup with a comprehensive victory, crushing West Indies by nine wickets. In fact, it was an all-round performance from the Indian side as the bowlers restricted West Indies to a paltry total of just 44 runs, making it an easy task for the Indian batsmen to chase down the target.
Stellar Bowling by India

India, playing in the group stage of the T20 U-19 Women’s World Cup, won the toss and elected to bowl. This decision would prove to be a masterstroke as Indian bowlers struck the West Indies batsmen hard in the very first over and never let them relax.
Fast bowler VJ Joshita set the tone by taking two wickets off one over, followed by the left-arm spin pair of Ayushi Shukla and Parunika Sisodiya in successive overs by taking two more wickets. By the 5.1-over mark, West Indies was reeling at a disastrous 4 for 17. Indian bowlers didn’t let off the pressure with three runouts adding to West Indies’ misery. The Caribbean side was reduced to a woeful 39 for 7.
Sisodiya and Shukla then finished off the innings, bowling West Indies out for a mere 44 runs. Sisodiya was the pick of the bowlers, taking 3 wickets for just 7 runs, while Joshita and Shukla both took two wickets each. The bowling by the Indian bowlers was a true exhibition of discipline and skill, and West Indies could never recover from the onslaught in the early stages.
India’s Easy Chase to Victory

With 44 runs needed to win, India’s batting line-up was under minimal pressure. However, they did lose a wicket early when G Trisha was dismissed for four runs. The chase was never in doubt, though. G Kamalini and Sanika Chalke ensured that India crossed the line with ease, taking the team to the target in just the second ball of the fifth over. The all-rounded domination of the Indian team during the match truly highlighted that domination during the game.
Malaysia lost deplorably in the inaugural match of the tournament

Host country Malaysia, playing the opening match of the day, got thumped by Sri Lanka. Malaysia, playing for the first time in the T20 U-19 Women’s World Cup, had a forgettable beginning to their tournament as they were bowled out for a paltry 23 against Sri Lanka. It was one of the one-sided matches that could be seen in recent times as Malaysian batting utterly collapsed under the pressure of disciplined bowling by Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka had batted first and had put in a competitive total of 162 runs in their given 20 overs. Key contributions came from Sanjana Kavindi, who smashed 30 runs off just 13 balls, and Dehami Sanetama, who top-scored with 55 runs off 52 balls. Sri Lanka’s strong batting display was the foundation of their dominant win.
In response, Malaysia’s batting completely failed. The side was bowled out for a mere 23 runs in 14.2 overs, with not a single Malaysian batswoman reaching double figure. In fact, six of the Malaysian players lost their wickets without scoring any runs, hence highlighting the scale of their struggles. Sri Lankan bowlers were in a complete grip at all times; hence, there was a landslide victory by 139 runs.
Dominance of India and a Shaky Start from Malaysia

The match between India and West Indies in the opening game of the tournament was a dominating victory for India. The bowlers, with Sisodiya, Shukla, and Joshita leading the way, restricted West Indies to a paltry total. The chase thereafter was a mere formality for the Indian batsmen, who cruised to victory in a jiffy.
On the other side, Malaysia entered the T20 U-19 Women’s World Cup for the first time. Their inaugural entry was disastrous against Sri Lanka when they lost comprehensively. Yet, the big defeat would provide a much-needed wake-up call for Malaysia. They will prepare and return strong in the matches ahead. On the other side, Sri Lanka will be encouraged after this dominating match and key inputs from their first-class players.
With India’s big show and a thumping Sri Lanka victory in the T20 U-19 Women’s World Cup, competition is going to become very exciting throughout the tournament with some competitive cricket.
