Vinesh Phogat wins first gold medal at an Asian wrestling
Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat Friday won her maiden gold at Asian Wrestling Championships after beating her rival Taipei’s Meng Hsuan Hsieh in the final.
The Olympic-bound wrestler had already clinched three silver and four bronze awards and this is Vinesh’s third gold in three competitions since her return in Walk.
Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat went unbeaten through the day and without dropping a point to win the 53kg gold at the Asian Wrestling Championships at Almaty, Kazakhstan on Friday. This was Vinesh Phogat’s first Asian gold – she had prior won three silvers and four bronze since 2013. This was her third-straight gold of 2021, after earlier winning in Ukraine and at the Matteo Pellicone Memorial in Rome. Vinesh Phogat, a world championships bronze-medallist, overpowered Mongolia’s Otgonjargal Ganbaatar by specialized predominance within the first round and repeated that execution against Meng Hsuan Hsieh of Chinese Taipei to cruise into the semis.
Thank you Rome for the experience, the competition, and the chance to put in practice a few things I have been working on. Happy to finish with a 🥇Back to getting fitter, faster, and stronger in preparation for the one that matters..! 🇮🇳✊💪 pic.twitter.com/qZnaER1vLq
