Virat Kohli’s Costly DRS Error Leaves Rohit Sharma Frustrated

Virat Kohli’s decision to skip the DRS review turned out to be a significant mistake during the second day of the first Test against Bangladesh in Chennai on Friday. The Indian star batter was trapped lbw by Bangladesh’s spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz. After a brief discussion with teammate Shubman Gill, Kohli opted against reviewing the on-field decision made by umpire Richard Kettleborough.

The delivery was a full ball, bowled at 84.9 kph. Virat Kohli leaned forward to flick it towards the on-side but missed the ball completely, which struck him low on the front pad, directly in front of the off-stump. At first glance, it appeared to be a straightforward dismissal, with the ball likely hitting the stumps.

However, replays using UltraEdge later revealed a spike, indicating that there was an inside edge before the ball made contact with Virat Kohli’s pad. This revelation came as a surprise, as even Kohli himself seemed unaware of the edge at that moment. The missed opportunity to challenge the decision not only cost Kohli his wicket but also left a critical impact on the team’s momentum.

Rohit Sharma’s Frustration Over the Missed Review

Rohit Sharma, the Indian captain, was visibly frustrated by Virat Kohli’s choice to not take the DRS review, a decision that could have shifted the dynamics of the match. Kohli’s dismissal added to the pressure on the Indian batting lineup as they sought to build on their substantial lead. By the end of the day’s play, India found themselves at 81 for three in their second innings, extending their overall lead to a commanding 308 runs. Shubman Gill, who remained unbeaten on 33 runs, showed promise as he batted alongside Rishabh Pant, who ended the day at 12 not out.

Earlier in the match, Bangladesh struggled in their first innings, bowled out for a mere 149 runs. This performance handed India a massive first-innings lead of 227 runs, putting them in a dominant position. With the match progressing, Kohli’s costly decision could prove crucial as India aims to secure a victory in this Test.
