Jofra Archer, the talented fast bowler, is absent from the IPL 2025 mega auction despite registering earlier. The auction will take place on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. It will feature 574 players, but Archer’s name is missing from the final list.

What is the IPL 2025 Mega Auction?

The IPL 2025 mega auction is a big event where teams buy new players. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) received registrations from 1574 players, but only 574 players were shortlisted by the franchises. Among these players, teams can fill 204 slots, with up to 70 overseas players allowed. Some notable names on the list include 42-year-old James Anderson and 13-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi.

However, Jofra Archer, a major star, is surprisingly not on the list, leaving fans curious.

Why is Jofra Archer Not on the Auction List?

There are two possible reasons why Archer is missing. First, it’s likely that none of the 10 IPL teams showed interest in him when submitting their player preferences to the BCCI. Second, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) might have withdrawn his name to manage his workload. Archer has faced several injury setbacks since 2021 and has missed many matches due to these issues.

Although he has returned to international cricket and played in 19 games since May 2023, he has not been a regular part of the IPL. He played only five games in IPL 2023 and was later released by the Mumbai Indians. His injury history might have influenced the decision to exclude him.

Archer’s Recent IPL and International Record

In recent IPL seasons, Archer hasn’t had much of an impact. Mumbai Indians bought him in the IPL 2022 auction despite knowing he was injured. He couldn’t play that season, and in 2023, he played just five matches before being released by the team. The ECB had also pulled him out of IPL 2024 to protect his health.

Archer’s injuries and workload management have made it difficult for him to stay consistent in T20 leagues like the IPL. Despite his recent return to form, his health seems to be a major concern for both the franchises and the ECB.

Will Jofra Archer Play in Future IPL Seasons?

Since Archer is centrally contracted with the ECB, he earns around £700,000 (INR 7 crore) yearly. If the ECB has pulled him out to manage his workload, he may not be available for the IPL 2026 mini-auction either. According to BCCI rules, overseas players who skip a mega auction are not allowed in mini-auctions the following year.

Archer’s fans will have to wait and see if he can overcome his injury troubles and return to the IPL in the future. For now, his absence from the 2025 auction is a big disappointment for those who enjoy watching him bowl.
