Indian tennis player Sumit Nagal crashed out of the first round draw of men’s singles at Wimbledon Open. Nagal, India’s top-ranked singles tennis player, made his debut at the grass court in London with the game. However, he lost to Miomir Kecmanovic of Serbia, making an early exit by getting eliminated in the first round.
Nagal lost to 53rd ranked Kecmanovic 2-6, 6-3, 3-6, 4-6 in 2 hours and 48 minutes at the SW19. The 26-year-old displayed glimpses of brave fight in his maiden Wimbledon appearance.

The World No. 73 went down 2-6 in the opening round against his opponent Kecmanovic, but he made a comeback to take the second set 6-3. He made some good moves at the center giving a glimmer of hope for a win. However, Krecmanovic made it 2-1 and the pressure was back on the Indian player.
Nagal was down 1-5 in the final set but still put up a brave fight. However, Krecmanovic held his nerves and prevailed over Nagal in four sets.

Entering the campaign as a dark house, Napal could have become the first Indian tennis player in the men’s singles to win a round at Wimbledon.
The Wimbledon boys’ doubles winner acknowledged his struggle of playing on grass, which is not his favourite surface. He had won the boys’ doubles nine years ago. Nagal had arrived early in London to train for the opening round after having had an extended exposure at the clay court of Roland Garros.
Sumit Nagal’s singles campaign has come to an end at Wimbledon 2024, but he will be in action in doubles. He will be joining forces with Serbia’s Dusan Lajovic in the Wimbledon title hunt. The Indo-Serbian duo will face Pedro Martinez and Jaume Munar of Spain in the men’s doubles first round.
Talking about his singles campaign, Nagal will now represent India at the Paris Olympics 2024.
