The list of T20 World Cup champions in women’s cricket.

2009 – England

The first-ever ICC Women’s T20 World Cup trophy was lifted by the host nation of the tournament. The English team defeated the New Zealand team in the finals played at the historic Lords cricket ground in London. Under the captaincy of Charlotte Edwards, the English women beat their New Zealand counterparts by 6 wickets and became the first nation to come out as winners of the tournament.

2010 – Australia

The second edition of the tournament held in 2010 was won by the Australian team. The final was played at Bridgetown Cricket Ground in Barbados, West Indies. Under the leadership of Alex Blackwell, the Kangaroos won their first title. The Black Caps played hard, but the Australian team seized the victory by a narrow margin of 3 runs and marked their entry in the tournament leaderboards.

2012/13 – Australia

The third tournament was hosted by Sri Lanka’s different venues in 2012/13. The final match was played between Australia’s and England’s women’s teams, and once again Australia wrote history and won their consecutive trophies. The kangaroo side, led by Jess Duffin, clinches back-to-back trophies, showing their fearless approach towards the game. The Australian captain won the player of the match award for scoring 45 runs in the final match at Colombo Stadium.

2013/14 – Australia

This time the host city was Bangladesh, and the defending champion, the Australian women’s team, achieved the historic milestone. The Kangaroo team won their third T20 World Cup title and made a hat trick. The final match was organized at Mirpur Cricket Ground, where once again runners-up were in the final, and the Australian women’s team defeated them for the second time and became the first team in the tournament’s history to win three ICC trophies.

2015/16  – West Indies

For the first time, India was hosting the World Cup campaign, and once again, the mighty Australia was in the final of the tournament. But this time the West Indies team defeated them and won their first-ever trophy in the Women’s World Cup’s history. The Carrebian team led by Stafanie Taylor wrote the history. Captain Taylor opened with Hayley Matthews while chasing down the target of 149 runs, played a match-winning inning of 66 runs, and helped the team to win their maiden trophy.

2018 – Australia

In the year 2018, it was the sixth T20 World Cup edition, and once again in tournament history, England and Australia were in the finals that took place at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium. The England team posted a total of 105 runs, and the Kangaroo team once again created history and seized their fourth title. The Australian women’s team defeated the English team by 8 wickets. Ashleigh Gardner played a valuable knock and helped her team to win the tournament.

2019/20 – Australia

In the year 2019/20, the tournament was hosted by Australia, and the final match was played between Australia and India. For the first time, Indian women were into the finals, and the match occurred in the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). The Kangaroo team once again won the trophy, and this was the fifth title for Cricket Australia. Alyssa Healy’s and Beth Mooney’s half-centuries helped Australia to post a total of 184 runs, and in return Indian players failed to score 100 runs and lost the match by the margin of 84 runs. Also, Healy won the player of the match award for scoring in the finals.

2022/23 – Australia

History will define Australia as the most dominant side in cricket history. Also, it’s not about the men’s team; even the Australian women’s team has been one of the most dangerous teams in women’s cricket history. The Kangaroo team won their 6th World Cup trophy for the sixth time and for the second time in the tournament’s history, they made a hat trick of winning titles. The final match was played at South Africa’s Cape Town. While batting first, Australian opener batsman Beth Mooney scored 75 runs and helped the Kangaroos to post a total of 157 runs, and in return, the Proteas team was not able to achieve the title, and for the 6th time in the campaign’s history, the Australian women’s team won the tournament and set the world record.

2024/25  – New Zealand

Defending champions New Zealand made history by winning their first-ever T20 World Cup title in 2024/25. Under the leadership of Sophie Devine, the Kiwi team secured their maiden title in the tournament’s history by defeating South Africa by 8 runs. Eden Carson won the Player of the Match award. The final was played between South Africa and New Zealand at the Dubai Cricket Stadium. The Kiwi team clinched their maiden title in tournament history. This time, the New Zealand women’s team aims to win a consecutive title, and if the Kiwi side achieves this feat, they will become only the second country after Australia to successfully defend the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup title.
