World Weightlifting Championships 2024: All You Need To Know

Competitors will meet at the 2024 World Weightlifting Championships which will be held in Manama, Bahrain. The competition will be the sport’s second-biggest event this year after the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

After battling it out for Olympic glory at Paris 2024, the top weightlifters from across the globe vie to outdo one another at the IWF 2024 World Weightlifting Championships.

Competitors will meet at the 2024 World Weightlifting Championships which will be held in Manama, Bahrain. The competition will be the sport’s second-biggest event this year after the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Reigning Olympic champions Karlos Nasar, Olivia Reeves, and Rizki Juniansyah headline the field at the event in Bahrain. Nine weightlifters will make attempts to retain the world titles they clinched last year in Riyadh.

In all, 473 from 92 nations are set to take part in the competition. 

2024 World Weightlifting Championships: Dates

The championships are scheduled to take place between 6-15 December 2024.

This is the first time in the history of the World Weightlifting Championships that the competition will be held in the Gulf island nation, which played host to the 2022 Asian Weightlifting Championship.

2024 World Weightlifting Championships: Medal Events

Medals will be awarded across 10 male and female categories each in the following weight classes:

Women: 45kg, 49kg, 55kg, 59kg, 64kg, 71kg, 76kg, 81kg, 87kg, +87kg
Men: 55kg, 61kg, 67kg, 73kg, 81kg, 89kg, 96kg, 102kg, 109kg, +109kg

2024 World Weightlifting Championships: Schedule

The preliminary schedule consists of only two main finals every day-men and women. The men’s 55kg open the event on 6 December and will be followed by the women’s 49kg.

Saturday, 7 December

  • 17:30: Women 49kg
  • 20:00: Men 61kg

Sunday, 8 December

  • 17:30: Men 67kg

  • 17:30: Men 81kg
