In this article, we will take a look at the top five most iconic moments in the history of WWE Hell in a Cell.

1. The Undertaker vs Shawn Michaels (1997)

Let’s take a sneak peek into the OG season first! The 1997 season of WWE Hell in a Cell turned out to be a fairytale for the WWE platform as it garnered them an invincible viewership and fan following from all over the world. Well, WWE absolutely missed no chance to make the debut season a grand success and featured a star-studded lineup of wrestlers with storied rivalries.

The Undertaker vs Shawn Michaels bout at the 1997 Hell in a Cell is still revered as one of the most iconic, memorable, and spine-chilling bouts in the history of WWE! While the Undertaker was on the verge of defeating Michaels, music played for the first time in WWE, signaling the arrival of Kane. Kane entered the ring and tombstoned his brother, the Undertaker. The scene continues to give goosebumps to the fans who experienced the wrath of Kane against the dead man.

2. Mankind vs The Undertaker (1998)

Don’t tell us that you thought Undertaker’s era was over just because he was tombstoned at Bad Blood 1997! Well, for a wrestler like him – there was apparently no such thing as an “end”, there was always a comeback drenched in blood, rivalry, and fury.

The “Mankind vs The Undertaker” bout at the 1998 Hell in a Cell edition was undoubtedly one of those matches that made the audience go speechless. The loud hoots turned into intimidating and chilling silence when Undertaker threw off Mankind from above the roof of the ring to beneath the announcer’s table. The sound of Mankind crashing on the table from a height of about 20 ft was deafening, and it left the audience shocked and absolutely terrified. If you’re a fan of WWE’s 90s era, that fall is enough to give you nightmares!

3. Triple H vs Cactus Jack (2000)

Do you know that the ring of Hell in a Cell match is also labeled “unforgiving”? Whenever a wrestler loses a match in the Hell in Cell edition, he is forced to bear a humiliating penalty, and sometimes it can be as hard as quitting their wrestling career!

The same incident happened back in the “No Way Out” 2000 event where Cactus Jack gave his commitment to retire from wrestling in case he lost the bout against Triple H. With their hard-hitting moves, both the wrestlers did their bit to defeat each other but, shockingly at a point, both reached the top of the steel cell. Although Cactus tried to execute his signature “Piledriver” move on Triple H, it backfired and Cactus ended up falling hard into the ring below. The impact of the fall was so brutal that the floor of the ring literally broke, making it one of the most memorable moments in the history of the WWE Hell in a Cell event.

4. The Undertaker vs The Edge (2008)

The final match of the 2008 SummerSlam between the Undertaker and the Edge turned out to be one of the most intense and memorable matches in the history of WWE. The storied rivalry between the Undertaker and the Edge reached its apex inside the unforgiving Cell. The match itself was filled with all possible kinds of weapons, including steel chairs, ladders, and all that it would take to almost “kill” an opponent inside the Cell.

Undertaker, who is often hailed as the specialist of the Hell in a Cell match, ended up defeating Edge with his signature “chokeslam” move. Out of every ferocious moment in the match, the final one where Edge lay motionless in the ring after being brutally choked by the Undertaker remains to be one of the most gruesome and memorable moments ever witnessed in the history of WWE Hell In a Cell!

5. Seth Rollins vs The Edge (2021)

Although it’s a comparatively tough deal for WWE to recreate the spine-chilling magic at the Hell in a Cell match in the modern era, a few bouts undoubtedly have been able to reach the same apex of popularity among the fans.

The “Seth Rollins vs The Edge” bout at the Crown Jewel 2021 is undoubtedly one such intense encounter. The storyline of the match showed Edge taking up a ruthless and aggressive side while Rollins took up a good image. With hard-hitting moves and brutal use of weapons, the bout between the two wrestlers kept getting more intense with each second passing through. The Edge ended up defeating Seth Rollins and putting an end to their years-long rivalry, making it one of the most memorable moments of WWE’s Hell in a Cell event.
