WWE’s biggest event, WrestleMania 41, is going to take place on April 19 and 20 at Allegiant Stadium, Las Vegas. The main matches of both nights of this event have been decided, but one big match that missed out on becoming the main event is Gunther vs Jey Uso.
Jey Uso won the WWE Royal Rumble 2025 and chose Gunther as his opponent. Despite this, this match could not become a part of the main event of any night of WrestleMania. There are five major reasons behind this:
Viewers have seen this match many times
When Jey Uso won the Royal Rumble, fans were expecting him to face a new and exciting opponent. But the Jey Uso vs Gunther match has happened many times before, even a week before the Royal Rumble. Even in 2024, Jey has lost to Gunther several times. In such a situation, the audience was less interested in watching this match again on a big stage like WrestleMania.
Jey Uso has been shown as weak
After winning the Royal Rumble, Jey Uso got tremendous support from the fans. But since then his booking has been weak. On every occasion, Gunther has dominated him and shown him weak. Due to this, the interest of the fans gradually decreased, and this was a big reason why this match could not make it to the main event.
Jimmy Uso’s entry distracted attention
The entire focus of this storyline should have been on Jey Uso, but his brother Jimmy Uso turned it in his favor. Moments like Jimmy slapping Gunther diverted the attention of the fans from Jey. This weakened Jey’s WrestleMania storyline and this match was out of the race for the main event.
Entry of mid-card superstars reduced the impact of the feud
Mid-card superstars like A-Town Down Under and Alpha Academy were included in the match between Jey Uso and Gunther, which reduced the seriousness of this match. Fans started feeling it like a mid-card feud rather than a big title match, which became a big reason for it not being included in the main event.
Weak storyline build-up
The biggest reason that kept this match out of the main event was its weak storyline. Pre-match booking, lack of creative planning and weak presentation of Jey Uso cooled this feud. WWE made it look like just a simple title defense, not a match worthy of the main event of WrestleMania 41.
Conclusion
Jey Uso and Gunther are both great wrestlers, but due to wrong booking and weak storyline, this match could not become the main attraction of WrestleMania 41. Now it will be interesting to see how much better WWE can make this match and whether it gets a chance to be a part of the main event again on a big stage in the future or not.
