The last episode of Monday Night RAW before Saturday Night’s Main Event had a lot of expectations. Fans were ready for some major build-up, more match announcements, and big surprises. However, WWE missed the mark in a few areas. The show did include funny and entertaining moments like AJ Styles sneaking around with a “Get Well Soon” cake for Dominik Mysterio and Ludwig Kaiser winning under his new masked persona, El Grande Americano.
Still, there were clear mistakes that could have been avoided. Here are five of the biggest ones WWE made on RAW this week.
5. Giving Away Match Results With Stats
One of WWE’s most exciting tools is unpredictability. But when the commentators start listing win-loss records, it spoils the suspense. For example, they mentioned Rhea Ripley being 0-4 against IYO SKY. That makes it obvious Rhea will likely win at Evolution, since she’s long overdue.
They did the same with Bronson Reed, saying he was 0-3 against Jey Uso. Then he lost again by disqualification, just to hurt Jey more. WWE could have left the records out and kept fans guessing.
4. Ivy Nile’s Random Segment
On RAW, Ivy Nile asked Adam Pearce for a spot in the Evolution battle royal because she didn’t have a match. But it felt strange, as most women are already in the battle royal why make a whole segment just for her?
A better idea would’ve been a quick match or a face-off, especially with Stephanie Vaquer already appearing in a promo. Thankfully, Asuka and Kairi Sane brought some life to the scene with their energetic dancing.
3. No CM Punk on the Show
CM Punk is a huge name, and his absence was noticed. Last week, he confronted Seth Rollins after Seth cost him his WWE Title shot. There was also some drama with Gunther and LA Knight.
But on the final RAW before the weekend’s big show, Punk was nowhere to be seen. He didn’t need a long promo or a match, but even a short warning to Rollins would’ve added heat to the rivalry. His absence left fans disappointed.
2. No Match for RAW’s Tag Team Spot
On SmackDown, there was a proper match to decide which team would represent the brand in the Women’s Tag Team Title Fatal Four-Way at Evolution. Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss earned their place with a win.
But on RAW, Asuka and Kairi Sane were just added to the match without having to fight for it. Same with the NXT team of Sol Ruca and Zaria. At least a match against someone like Maxxine Dupri and Natalya could have made it feel fair.
1. Making Gunther Look Weak
Gunther has always been shown as a powerful, no-nonsense heel. But lately, WWE has been booking him like a coward, especially in his interactions with Goldberg. At WrestleMania, he tapped out to Jey Uso, which already hurt his image.
Now, acting scared around a 58-year-old Goldberg makes him look even worse. A character like Gunther should be dominant and fearless, not running away from fights especially not from someone who’s mostly retired.
