T20 World Cup 2026: With the T20 World Cup 2026 fast approaching, the International Cricket Council ICC has announced the complete list of match officials who will oversee the group stage matches. The announcement was made on Friday, January 30, with the tournament set to begin on February 7 across venues in India and Sri Lanka.

ICC Names Officials for Group Stage Matches

For the group phase, the ICC has appointed 24 on-field umpires and six match referees. The panel features several well-known and experienced officials who have handled major international matches over the years. The ICC also confirmed that officials for the Super Eight and knockout rounds will be revealed later.

The ICC stated, “Officials for the Super Eight and knockout stages will be announced in due course.”

Opening Match to Be Officiated by Dharmasena and Knights

The T20 World Cup 2026 will kick off in Colombo, where Pakistan will face the Netherlands at the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground. Kumar Dharmasena and Wayne Knights have been named as the on-field umpires for the opening clash.

For Knights, this match will mark his first appearance as an on-field umpire in a Men’s T20 World Cup. Dharmasena, however, brings a wealth of experience, having officiated in 37 T20 World Cup matches. He has also stood in two T20 World Cup finals in 2016 and 2022 and was a member of Sri Lanka’s 1996 World Cup-winning squad.

Big Responsibilities for Tucker and Menon

India’s opening day of the tournament will see Kolkata host the Group C match between Scotland and the West Indies. Nitin Menon and Sam Nogajski will be the on-field umpires for that contest. Menon previously officiated the first semi-final of the 2024 T20 World Cup, while Nogajski handled four group stage games in that tournament.

Later the same day, India will take on the USA in Mumbai. Paul Reiffel and Rod Tucker have been assigned to officiate that match. Tucker stands out as the most experienced umpire in the tournament, having already officiated in 46 Men’s T20 World Cup matches. During this edition, he will also handle games involving England versus Nepal, India versus Namibia, and South Africa versus the UAE.

Top Umpires Chosen for India vs Pakistan Showdown

On February 11, Australia’s Group B encounter against Ireland will be officiated by Chris Gaffaney and Richard Illingworth. The pair also shared on-field duties during the 2024 T20 World Cup final between India and South Africa in Barbados.

One of the most anticipated matches of the group stage, the India versus Pakistan clash on February 15 in Colombo, will be officiated by Richard Illingworth and Kumar Dharmasena, ensuring the high-pressure game is in experienced hands.
