India might have won the T20 World Cup 2026, but the team’s all-rounder finds himself in legal trouble. A complaint has been filed against Hardik Pandya for disrespecting the national flag while celebrating India’s T20 World Cup win against New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

According to the complaint, Wajid Khan, who told ANI, “You must have seen the T20 World Cup here. Hardik Pandya was dancing with his girlfriend in celebration of his victory. The national flag was tied to his back.”
Wajid Khan further added, “According to Section 2 of the 1971 National Flag Act, we should respect the dignity of the national flag. However, Hardik Pandya was so lost in the celebration of his victory that he was lying with his girlfriend, wearing the national flag. I believe it is an insult to the national flag.”

The Law
The Complaiant Wajid Khan, an advocate, filed a complaint against Hardik Pandya with the Pune police in accordance with the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971 which prohibites activities like Using the flag as drapery (except for specific state/military funerals), using it as a costume/uniform below the waist, embroidering it on cushions/napkins, or letting it touch the ground/floor/water Hardik Pandya and his gilrfriend has disrespected the Indian national flag.

The Incident
The incident, according to the complainant, took place while Hardik and Mahieka were celebrating India’s third T20 World Cup title win, where they were seen dancing and getting involved in appropriate acts while the national flag was on Hardik Pandya’s back.
The Reaction
However, it is to be noted that the investigation is underway according to the Pune police, and no FIR has been registered till the writing of this news.

Hardik Pandya has a history of actions being taken against him, the first of which came when he, along with KL Rahul, went to a popular talk show in 2019, where Hardik’s remarks on women caused a huge backlash against him.
