Dravid will be honoured with the Cornel CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award on March 15
Former India captain and World Cup-winning coach Rahul Dravid will be honoured by the BCCI on March 15 at the annual award named Naman for his contribution to Indian cricket. Dravid is set to receive the Cornel CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award.
The Contribution
Rahul Dravid played 164 Test matches for India and was the backbone of the team during the late 90s till the first decade of the new millennium. He was an integral part of the Fab Four of the Indian team in the longest format of the game, which also included the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman and Sourav Ganguly.
The Record
As mentioned above, Dravid played 164 Test matches for India and scored more than 13000 runs with 36 hundreds and five double hundreds. Dravid’s highest score of 270 runs came against Pakistan on the historic tour in 2004.
The Switch
Rahul Dravid is often regarded as a good red-ball player, which he surely was, but his record in the ODI format of the game isn’t bad either. The right-hander played 344 ODI matches for India and scored close to 11000 runs with the help of 83 half-centuries and 12 centuries.
The Captaincy Record
Many people associate Rahul Dravid’s captaincy era with that one failure when India was eliminated in the first round of the 2007 ODI World Cup, but that is just one side of the coin. Under Dravid’s captaincy, India won a Test series in the West Indies for the first time in 2006 and won 17 consecutive ODI matches while chasing.
The Coaching Stint
After retiring from international cricket, Dravid had successful coaching stints in the IPL with the Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Daredevils before accepting the role of India Under-19 and India A, where he got the opportunity to work with future stars like Rishabh Pant and Shreya Iyer, both of whom went on to play for India.

The Rise
After coaching the India Under 19 and A team for a significant period, Dravid was made the coach of the senior Men’s Team in 2021 and he along with Rohit Sharma changed the mindset of India’s white ball side as they played rougthless cricket which helped the Men in Blue reach thefinal of the fifty ove World Cup played on home soil in 2023 and went a step further to clinch the T20 World Cup title in 2024.
The Winners
Along with Dravid, former Indian Women’s team captain Mithali Raj will also be honoured for her contribution to Indian Women’s cricket, whereas India’s ODI and Test captain Shubman Gill is in consideration for the Cricketer of the Year.
