The famous M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru has received official government approval to host the final of the IPL 2026 and two other knockout matches. The stadium will also host five league matches involving Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the next season of the Indian Premier League.

The approval comes after a high-level meeting was held on Monday between the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), RCB officials, and an expert committee headed by G. Maheshwar Rao.

RCB to Split Home Matches Between Bengaluru and Raipur

As per a previously agreed-upon deal with the Chhattisgarh government, Royal Challengers Bengaluru will allocate their home matches at two different stadiums during the IPL 2026 season.
RCB Home Match Venues

Five matches at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru

Two matches at Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium, Raipur

This move is likely to increase their fan base while also relieving the pressure of the crowd at the Bengaluru stadium.

Digital Ticketing and Metro Connectivity for Fans

RCB and the KSCA have established many innovative initiatives for improving the management of crowds at Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Major Initiatives to Improve Fan Experiences:

The use of QR codes for match tickets improved the smooth entry of fans to matches. The coordination of transport systems between the BMRCL and RCB helps resolve various challenges that arise on match days.

Late metro services until 1:00 AM on match days.

Increased frequency of trains on all metro routes to handle large fan turnout.

Fans can ride the metro for no cost if they are in possession of a matching ticket (still awaiting confirmation).

The above mentioned initiatives are anticipated to improve the fan experience at Chinnaswamy Stadium on match days.

Infrastructure Improvements at Chinnaswamy Stadium

The Karnataka State Cricket Association has made various infrastructure developments at Chinnaswamy Stadium to meet the recommendations of the expert committee.

Major Structural Changes

Construction of six new entry gates around the stadium.

Expansion of the existing entry gates to avoid congestion.

Development of the old NCA site with ramps and tarpaulin surfaces to act as a holding area for the public before entering.

Improvement of crowd flow systems around the stadium premises.

The measures implemented are intended to ensure that safe crowd control is present for all major events, including the IPL final.

Match Day Traffic and Security Arrangements

Authorities are considering changes to enhance traffic control measures around Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The Bengaluru City Police, in collaboration with the KSCA, is set to manage the flow of traffic on Cubbon Road, which is along the main entrance of the stadium. The road will be opened periodically for vehicles during match days to prevent congestion.

IPL 2026 Matches Scheduled at Chinnaswamy Stadium

The organizers of the IPL have so far announced the schedule for only the first two weeks of the tournament. In this initial phase, Chinnaswamy Stadium will stage a high-profile match on April 5, which will be between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Chennai Super Kings.

Background: Stadium Controversy After IPL 2025

The most recent official game played at Chinnaswamy Stadium was in IPL Season 2025. The venue has gained media attention again since 11 fans died at the post-match celebration for RCB’s win on June 3 due to overcrowding. Since then, there has been a significant emphasis on enhancing safety standards and crowd control systems.

Leadership Changes at KSCA

Most of the recent upgrades at the Chinnaswamy Stadium were done after the December KSCA elections, where former Indian fast bowler Venkatesh Prasad took over the reins of the organization. Venkatesh Prasad led the organization to complete the recommended upgrades in two months, ensuring that the stadium is safe enough to host the IPL 2026 Final.

Event Management and Ticket Sales Update

The stadium will now be formally managed by the IPL franchise and their event management partners, DNA Entertainment Networks.
While the Royal Challengers Bengaluru have not yet officially announced the sale of tickets for their matches at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, the sale of tickets is expected to begin later this week.
