WTC: Bangladesh created history after defeating Pakistan by 78 runs in the second Test of the two-match series, completing a memorable 2-0 whitewash on home soil. It was the Tigers’ first-ever Test series win against Pakistan at home, making the achievement even more special for the side led by Najmul Hossain Shanto. The victory also had a major impact on the ICC World Test Championship 2025-27 standings. Bangladesh climbed to fifth place in the points table with 28 points and a PCT of 58.33 after four matches, pushing India down to sixth position.
Mushfiqur Rahim’s memorable knock
Pakistan, in reply, failed to make the advantage count and were bowled out for 232, handing Bangladesh an important first-innings lead. In the second innings, Bangladesh completely took control of the contest. Veteran batter Mushfiqur Rahim played a calm and experienced knock of 137, while Litton Das continued his fine form with another valuable 69. Their efforts powered Bangladesh to a massive total of 390, leaving Pakistan with a difficult target of 437 runs.
Pakistan fought hard in the chase, with Mohammad Rizwan leading the resistance through a fighting 94. But Bangladesh spinner Taijul Islam stepped up on the final day and broke the backbone of the batting lineup. The left-arm spinner picked up six wickets and finished with impressive figures of 6/120, helping Bangladesh bowl Pakistan out for 358. After this loss India dropped to number six, meanwhile, Bangladesh reached number 5.
