Japan 3-0 India – Quarter-finals
Unlike the group stage matches, the knockout rounds of the Thomas & Uber Cup, as well as Sudirman Cup, ends after a Team have won the tie by 3 wins.
First Up was the Women’s Singles match, where India’s youngster Malvika Bansod played against World No. 5 Akane Yamaguchi of Japan. The Japanese player clinched the match in two straight games 21-12, 21-17 in about thirty-four minutes. Japan lead the tie 1-0.
Then, next up was Women’s Doubles with India’s pair of Tanisha Crasto/Rutaparna Panda facing an unranked Japanese pair of Yuki Fukushima/Mayu Matsumoto. However, the experienced players from Japan proved to be too much as both of them were World No.1 with other partners in past. Experience played a part, as Yuki Fukushima/Mayu Matsumoto won in two straight games 21-8, 21-10 in about 41 minutes. Thus, Japan is 2-0.
The last match was the 2nd Women’s Singles match, as Japan clinched it 3-0. India’s Aditi Bhatt was defeated by World No. 15 Sayaka Takahashi in two straight games 21-16, 21-7 in 29 minutes.
